Job Description

Responsibilities The Vice President of Benefits is responsible for administration of employee benefits in all company operations to forward the mission and goals of the organization. Develops and implements strategies to increase quality, improve performance and decrease costs. Develops, recommends, and installs approved, new, or modified plans and employee benefit policies, and supervises administration of existing plans. Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee. As needed, provides special guidance and assistance to all company locations on various employee benefit plans. The VP of Benefits is familiar with contracts including provider and vendor contracts as applied to employee benefits. Ensures HR and Benefit staff across all levels of the organization remain knowledgeable of appropriate health plans and benefits through continued education and annual training updates, development of standardized training modules for onboarding of new hire, as well as annual benefit enrollment with educational sessions at each site. The VP is responsible for various reporting related to regulatory and/or other annual reporting related to benefit and plan design.  Through interprofessional collaboration, the VP provides data in support to Legal Teams during labor negotiations as it relates to benefits and plan design. The VP works collaboratively across all areas of the EHP including utilization management, claims and customer service to forward EHP goals. Works closely and effectively with EHP TPA (third party administrator).  Collaborates and coordinates with third parties engaged to manage benefits.

Required qualifications:

  1. Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience as a VP-level or comparable role leading a self-funded health plan for a multi-state health system.
  2. Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years’ experience in Benefits Administration, OR
  3. Master’s degree in Human Resource Management and four (4) years’ experience in Benefits Administration, OR any appropriate combination of education and
  4. Experience in Benefit Administration, including benefit and health plan design, as well as partnering with a TPA and any other third-party benefit providers/coordinators.
  5. Knowledge and experience with EPO plans and Managed Care Health Benefits.
  6. Demonstrated ability to explain, apply and understand of analysis techniques, benefit plan design and employee benefit laws.
  7. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  8. Experience with effectively leading and working with a team within a fast-paced environment; leading with the Servant Leader management-style dedicated to forwarding the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Experience overseeing the Benefits Administration for a multi-hospital system, ideally across multiple states or in complex states, such as CA or NJ.
  2. Experience and knowledge of Lawson (HRIS).
