Overview The Staffing Coordinator is responsible for entering patient care units’ staff schedules into the computer system.  Obtains daily staffing from the patient care units at regular intervals throughout the shift . Coordinates staffing on a projected and shift by shift basis.  Assigns staff to cover vacation and sick time with the approval of the respective Director/Manager. Performs minor secretarial and clerical duties with self initiative; assumes coordination of projects for the CNO as delegated and appropriate. Tracks registry/contract labor, maintains agency files and reviews all after-hour agency documentation; reconciles invoices.

Responsibilities Enters patient care units’ nursing staff schedules into the computer.  Maintains the six (6) week schedules.
Schedules / assigns nursing staff to cover vacation time and sick time in consultation with respective Director/Manager.
Makes arrangements for appropriate staffing of nursing staff when additional staffing is needed; ensures that policies are properly followed related to cancellations (e.g., per-diem nursing staff when over scheduled).
Bases staffing levels on patient acuity and mandated nurse to patient ratios when applicable per hospital policy.
Ensures that daily staffing is completed.  Ensures weekend and holiday schedules are covered and kept current.
Ensures that the Nurse Director/Manager is notified of any premium hour usage daily.
Records and reports registry hours daily. Maintains registry records; ensures copies of valid licenses, etc., orientation and performance evaluations are maintained per policies.  Processes invoices for registry use.
Utilizes the National Patient Safety Goals in the work place as related to job performance. Demonstrates awareness of a safe environment for staff, patients, visitors, or any others with Nursing Administration/hospital facility.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

1.    High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires effective April 2014.

2.    Knowledge of medical terminology, typing skills, calculator and/or ten-key adding machine.

3.    Word processing, spreadsheet experience required.

4.    Experience in healthcare preferred, preferably in an acute care setting.

5.    Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
