Job Description

The Imaging nurse is an integral part of the imaging team. The major goal of the Imaging nurse is to provide quality nursing to both in and outpatients in the Imaging Department. The Imaging nurse cares for the pediatric, adult, elderly, acutely ill, or chronically ill patient. The Imaging nurse should be qualified and prepared to handle all unexpected emergencies that occur during any radiological procedure. The Imaging nurse must be attuned to the diverse needs of the community such as language, ethnic, religious, and sexual differences. The Imaging nurse must be familiar with the patients bill of rights and seek assistance from other resources when needed to ensure individualized care. Skills utilized in his/her job performance include assessment, use of equipment, administering procedures under the direction of a licensed physician, communication, teaching, leadership, and management. This individual ensures patient privacy, dignity and safety. Areas where the nurse may function are: general diagnostic, interventional procedures, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and mammography. The overall goal of the Imaging nurse is to provide optimum patient care utilizing the nursing process. The Imaging nurse will assist, identify needs, plan, implement appropriate interventions, document and evaluate outcomes. May perform other tasks as assigned. May perform related duties such as transporting patients. Employee may be required to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care of patients and maintain service to the community. May rotate call. Must meet all competency assessments. Participates in Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities. He or she must recognize patient condition requiring life support measures.
