Job Description

Overview

The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator routinely books surgical cases for pediatric, adolescent, adult and older adult patients for the OR and the G.I. Lab. Coordinates and confirms the acquisition of services, equipment, instrumentation and supplies from outside vendors for scheduled surgeries. Prepares and distributes the surgical schedule and on call list to appropriate departments or personnel. Checks, enters and reconciles the daily patient charges. Prepares and distributes the monthly surgical statistics. Updates the Surgery Schedules and completes the required Log Book. Answers phones and appropriately communicates messages. Assists OR Director and Charge Nurse with additional clerical duties. Works with coworkers, other departments and outside companies, assisting with the provision of safe, efficient and quality patient care.
Responsibilities

Computes, reconciles and enters into the computer daily departmental statistics accurately and in a timely manner.

2. Accurately compiles, prepares and distributes monthly departmental statistics according to standards and hospital and departmental requirements in a timely manner.

3. Communicates any discrepancies with time, services or equipment to OR Charge Nurse or Director immediately upon discovery.

4. Inputs all Department of Surgery patient changes daily.

5. Coordinates and confirms required outside services, supplies and equipment as procedures are scheduled.(Marks Surgery Schedule appropriately to reflect this information).

6. Communicates discrepancies or unavailability to OR Charge Nurse or Director as soon as discovered.

7. Performs other essential duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1. Previous experience in a Medical Care Setting.

2. Knowledge of Medical Terminology.

3. Strong clerical and computer skills.

4. Command of the English language.

5. Strong interpersonal skills.

6. Previous experience in the OR preferred.

7. Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.
