Job Description



Overview

Under the supervision of the pharmacists, performs order entry, clerical duties, inventory control, medication distribution, floor stock delivery, preparation of IV admixture using sterile technique and maintains records of distribution and assists in nursing inspections, participates in performance improvement and data collections activities.  Provides pharmaceutical care for the following age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.  Performs other tasks as assigned by the pharmacists.

 

Responsibilities

1.

Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.

 

2.

Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.  Performs floor stock inspections accurately.  Performs outdate checks.

 

3.

Keeps Director informed of abnormal use of items.

 

4.

Enters patient information accurately into Pharmacy Computer System Order Entry, including allergies, height and weight.

 

5.

Recognizes the importance of correct dosage and proper dispensing of high alert medications.

 

6.

Delivers floor stock accurately.   Returns medications to stock and rotates stock.

 

7.

Under the supervision of the pharmacist in charge, restocks crash cart trays/stat boxes in a timely manner.  Restocks anesthesia trays in OR on a daily basis.

 

8.

Accurately and efficiently handles charges for controlled substances, night locker medications, and other patients’ charges.

 

9.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medication errors.

 

10.

Effectively communicates information to nursing, the pharmacists, and ancillary departments.

 

11.

Assists in training of new staff.

 

12.

Keeps pharmacist informed of workload status.

 

13.

Correctly enters orders for the correct patient using hospital standard identifiers.  Fills requisitions from nursing floors and ancillary departments in a timely fashion.

 

14.

Prepares select reports and MARs.

 

15.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

     

  • 1 year experience in Pharmacy

  • State Certificate of Pharmacy Tech

  • 3.  Starting in January 2013, all new hires require high school diploma or equivalent
