Job Description

The neonatal nurse practitioner is an advanced registered nurse practitioner who demonstrates expertise in the clinical management of the neonate and infant. The practitioner role is multi-faceted and includes clinical management of the high risk neonate and infant, educational responsibilities, administrative duties, consulting, and initiating/implementing research. The neonatal nurse practitioner works in collaboration with medical, nursing and support services to provide family centered care. Perform tasks within their scope of practice which may include conducting tests, recording medical histories, providing treatments, assisting physicians and enhancing public awareness on the importance of health, and prescribing medications.


Completes comprehensive physical assessment/examination of patient.
Identifies appropriate outcomes/targets for medical and self-management of diagnosed medical conditions.
Makes timely and appropriate diagnosis and medical problem list based on physical symptoms and completion of assessment including review of laboratory and diagnostic testing data.
Collaborates with the patient and the sponsoring physician as appropriate to develop a management plan appropriate to the diagnosis, other co-morbid conditions and financial needs of the patient.
Provides counseling and teaching of patient.
Implements plan of care.
Demonstrates understanding of sponsoring physician’s philosophy of care and implements or evaluates plan of care and outcomes ordered by sponsoring physicians when providing follow up care, consult referrals and "on-call" support to practice.
Uses Practice resources people and equipment to support the achievement of business goals, customer satisfaction, teamwork, and quality outcomes.
Utilizes data base and computer based information systems for gathering data, inputting information and utilizing findings to improve Practice quality.
Supports Practice in assuming secondary, tertiary or support roles (Practice call, hospital consult support etc.)
Schedules hours/activities based on Practice and customer needs.  Offers availability for flexible hours on weekends and evenings for rounding and consultation at all facilities.
Assists in orientation of Practice staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.


  • MSN with specialization as an ARNP
  • Current state license as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • BLS upon hire and maintain current
  • NRP (AAP) 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • One to two years of Level 3 NICU experience as a nurse practitioner preferred.
  • Excellent clinical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience with electronic health record.
