Responsibilities

The EPIC Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) is a credentialed trainer who is responsible for providing successful in-classroom training to a diversified audience for a major Healthcare IT implementation of an electronic healthcare record utilizing the EPIC system of applications. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position. By successfully understanding the Epic application and the Epic workflow, the EPIC CDS will conduct end user training classes for Healthcare employees, in both the clinical and business areas. The ideal EPIC CDS will have high energy and a passion for education, but also possess the ability to adapt to challenging classroom situations and personalities. Qualifications

Education and Work Experience
  • Medical Graduate, PA or Nursing Graduate required.

  • ECFMG Certificate or RN license preferred.

  • Please note that in order to be promoted to EPIC CDS I position, the Employee must meet certain performance standards as defined by the Hospital/ Department

  • Minimum of 1+ year's clinical experience in an acute care setting.

  • Knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and related medical record documents.

  • Knowledge of age-specific needs and the elements of disease processes and related procedures.

  • Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology / physiology of disease processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective partnering relationships with physicians, nurse staff, and hospital management staff.

  • Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment.

  • Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment.

  • Assertive personality traits to facilitate ongoing physician communication.

  • Working knowledge of Medicare reimbursement system and coding structures preferred.

  • Ability to become credentialed in one or more Epic application.

  • Ability to travel (out of town) 15% of the time

  • Ability to travel ( day travel) 80% of time to hospital locations or physician practice

  • Ability to teach in classroom, group, and one-on-one settings
