Job Description

Responsibilities Paramedic is responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of the staff nurse and / or physician. Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice; Assists in maintenance of a safe environment and performs under the direction and supervision of the ED Registered Nurse or Charge Nurse.  Paramedics have the critical thinking skills to manage patients. They bring their expertise from caring for patients in the field to the hospital environment. Paramedics have extensive training in EKG interpretation and perform the patient EKG’s. The nurses and paramedics are trained to recognize ST elevation MI’s. With their recognition we can quickly notify the MD and cath lab to improve patient outcome and save heart muscle.

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic certificate or a National Registry Paramedic Certification is required; Licensed Paramedic preferred.
  3. 2 years experience in acute hospital setting or in ambulance
  4. Current CPR and ACLS certification as established by the American Heart Association required
  5. Current PALS and ITLS certification as established by the American Heart Association, preferred.
  6. Must be able to read, write and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers.  Must possess the ability to write simple correspondence or reports.  Must possess the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees and/or managers.
  7. Must be knowledgeable of standard ED protocols, operational procedures and safety policies.
