JOB SUMMARY:
 
Provides management support and coordination for all medical staff, medical education and continuing education services. Maintains productive, professional relationships with all levels of staff. Develops departmental plans, budgets and directs staff as appropriate. Maintains knowledge of the medical staff and medical education standards as related to deemed agencies, state law, and other regulations to assure compliance.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises Medical Staff personnel and is responsible to ensure that all credentialing activities are complete, appropriate and comply with administrative and medical staff policy, as well as regulatory expectations and standards.
  • Identifies credentialing issues, irregularities and ensures that they are dealt with in an appropriate manner.
  • Develops processes which facilitate credentialing, incorporating regulatory changes as mandated and addressed standard expectations and changes.
  • Ensure that there is a functioning process within the hospital to notify appropriate staff regarding current privileges and proctoring. 
  • Continually works to update the privileging process to ensure that there is one standard of care.
  • Collects staff dues, makes deposits, maintains and balances check book as appropriate. Reports account balance to Medical Executive Committee as directed.
  • Works closely with Chief of Staff and Medical Staff Leadership to assist and assure compliance with medical staff bylaws and appropriate standards.
  • Demonstrates an ability to maintain a professional, friendly relationship with all medical staff in an effort to assure and facilitate their membership and use of the hospital.
  • Works with Program Director(s) in coordinating Medical Education Program (internship, residency and externship).
  • Assists Hospital and Program Director(s) in maintaining current accreditation status by complying with basic standards and regulations.
  • Oversees collection of required logs, evaluations and other documentation for observation privileges.
  • Works with medical schools in scheduling approved student externships.
  • Works with Chairman of Continuing Medical Education/Library Committee as needed.
  • Assists CME consultants in establishing an accredited continuing education program.
  • Responsible for hospital library services, maintains required librarian resources, current journals, periodicals and computer resources.
  • Assists Administrator/CEO and hospital management with any special projects relating to requirements by deemed agencies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required. 

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
     

    • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent education/experience.
    • Certification from the National Association of Medical Staff Services as Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM), required.
    • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS), or equivalent, preferred.
    • Minimum of five years of management experience in one of the following venues: hospitals, managed care, credentialing verification organizations, or ambulatory care.
    • Three years in medical staff services is required. Experience in working with governance processes is essential.
    • Must have strong computer, communication and writing skills with knowledge of medical terminology.
