Job Description

The ED Charge Nurse is responsible and accountable for the quality of staff and functions during their shift. Directly supervises and communications with all staff along with the Director of the Emergency Department. . Assists the Department Director in the daily operation of the unit, directing, supervising and evaluating personnel, ensuring the proper use of time, equipment and staff. Ensure the efficient functions of the department. Performs direct patient care, only as needed, within the scope of practice. Continually assess care provided in the department by ED staff.

•Consistently completes an accurate pertinent triage/initial assessments on new patients, in a timely manner.
•Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain on triage, after giving pain medication and upon discharge and proper documentation on the patient record.
•Reviews / implements new orders and keeps physician informed of patient???¢??s status. Consistently follows telephone orders / read back policy. Does not use unacceptable abbreviations.
•Consistently uses two patient identifiers when drawing lab, administering medications, blood components and performing procedures.
•Foster positive interpersonal relation with staff and members of other departments. Maintain high code of conduct and professionalism at all times.
•Supervises Patient Care Team to ensure that patients, families, visitors, physicians and other employees are treated with courtesy and respect.
•Responsible for adverse events/consequences as a result of his/her independent judgment when assigning the staff and evaluating patient care outcomes.
•Mentors staff by demonstrating empathy and respect for patients by explaining all procedures, providing privacy and allowing patients to express emotional needs.
•Assists with scheduling and monitoring master schedule for the ED staff. Monitors time and attendance for licensed and unlicensed personnel.
•Performs other management duties requiring independent judgment as assigned by the Director or CNO.
•This position is for the NIGHT SHIFT.
