Responsibilities

The Paramedic in the Emergency Department provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Paramedic is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her patients in the Emergency Department. He / She communicates with the physician about the changes in the patients clinical condition including results of the diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is capable of responding quickly and accurately to changes in the condition and/or response to treatment. Is knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality. The Paramedic is also responsible to fulfill the management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of the ED staff nurse and/or physician and other duties as assigned. Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice. Assists in maintenance of a safe environment and performs under the direction and supervision of the ED Physicians or Registered Nurse. Qualifications

1. Current and valid state Paramedic License. 2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. 3. Current ACLS (AHA)certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 4. PALS and/or ENPC required 30 days upon hire and maintain current. 6. BVP within 6 months of hire and maintain current annually. 7. Minimum of one year in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting preferred. 8. High School Diploma or Equivalent or related experience required for new hires effective April 2014.
